A curious video has cropped up online a couple of days ago showing a quarter-mile showdown between a 718 Cayman S and a Z4 M40i. Neither had been tampered with, so it was a fair drag race of two stock cars.
The BMW uses a 3.0-liter inline-six engine rated at 340 PS (335 hp / 250 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque to drive the rear wheels through an eight-speed A/T. It is not that heavy at all with its 1,580 kilograms (3,483 pounds).
In turn, the Porsche makes do with a smaller 2.5-liter turbo-four mill, which manages to pump out 350 PS (345 hp / 257 kW) and 420 Nm (310 lb-ft) of torque. It also has RWD, but the transmission is of a seven-speed PDK design. Importantly, its size enables it to weigh less – just 1,385 kilos (3,053 kilos).
Which one do you think will be the first to cross the finish line?
