South African magazine CAR has decided to put up a series of drag races between the Ford Mustang GT and its technical siblings, the new Toyota Supra and the BMW Z4 M40i. As is often the case, the race took place at an abandoned airbase.
Both the Japanese sports car and its German twin come equipped by the same 3.0-liter, turbocharged six-cylinder engine rated at 340 hp (254 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft), which connects to an eight-speed automatic transmission. However, due to its open-top design, the BMW roadster weighs 90 kilograms (~200 pounds) above the Supra.
As for the Mustang, it packs a much more impressive 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine rated at 450 hp (336 kW) and 526 Nm (388 lb-ft). A ten-speed automatic transmission is used to send the power to the rear wheels.
But do not jump to conclusions just yet: while obviously overpowering its opponents in terms of sheer engine power, the Ford Mustang GT is seriously handicapped by its added weight. In fact, just go ahead and watch the video, you will not be disappointed.
