Ares Modena has posted some images of its latest creation, the Wami Lalique Spyder co-designed with luxury glassmaker Lalique (Paris). Starting with a first-generation BMW Z4 produced in 2022 through 2008, the Italian coachbuilder has turned it into a retro roadster with some unique trim elements.
The entire exterior has been overhauled to look like an Italian classic car from the 1960s. Front and rear end extensions were installed to make it 350 mm (around 14 inches) longer than stock. An entire new body kit was produced from carbon fiber for this specific project, and numerous chrome accents were designed. LED lights rounded things off on the outside.
More carbon fiber can be found in the cabin along with natural wood and leather. The most unique stylistic feature comes in the form of assorted glass décor hand-made in Paris. Each of the 12 cars planned for production will receive 13 such glass elements, plus a Lalique badge on the steering wheel hub. Other than that, Ares Modena adds a modern infotainment system while keeping the rest of the cabin standard.
The same goes for the drivetrain. The Z4 continues to rely on its 3.0-liter mill churning out 231 PS (228 hp / 170 kW) and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) of torque to a six-speed automatic transmission. The stock car needs 6.2 seconds to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) from standstill. The coachbuilt version may prove a bit faster on the uptake thanks to a lighter body, but this remains to be seen.
As mentioned above, only 12 Wami Lalique Spyder units will be released.
