Robert Bollinger, CEO and founder of Bollinger Motors, came out with a presentation dedicated to the E-Chassis, the company’s proprietary car platform that both its B1 and B2 models are based upon.
The lightweight aluminum chassis features adjustable wheelbase length, low center of gravity, dual-motor AWD, support for traction batteries rated between 120 and 180 kWh, portal axles (optional), hydraulic/air suspension combo, and up to 2,268 kg (5,000 lbs) of carrying capacity.
Bollinger showed us what it praised as ‘the most off-road-capable and the most versatile’ SUV platform three years ago and launched pre-orders a year after that, but neither the 4-door pickup truck nor the 3- or 5-door estate/wagon has reached production yet. The company is still lacking a factory or partners that would be able to launch production for it.
Both the Bollinger B1 and B2 look rather impressive on paper. Among other things, the B1 wagon boasts between 10 and 20 inches (254 – 508 millimeters) of adjustable ground clearance. Its approach, departure and ramp angles amount to 56, 53, and 33 degrees, respectively.
In turn, the B2 pickup has serious cargo carrying capabilities. If you remove the paneling between the truck bed and the cabin, you will be able to put 20-foot (6-meter) long cargo inside for transportation.
The company emphasizes that the E-Chassis is highly versatile and enables creating EVs with all kinds of drive and body configurations. It also lends itself to a variety of applications, including commercial ones.
In all likelihood, Bollinger Motors is looking for sponsors willing to purchase the chassis itself or the production rights for it, like Rivian does. The B1 and B2 are expected to enter production next year at the earliest.
