Video: Bugatti showcases 3D-printed titanium brake caliper

Luxury carmaker Bugatti has posted a breathtaking video dedicated to its unique know-how, a titanium brake caliper made on a 3D printer. Hit Play and prepare to be amazed!

The company showed us an early prototype version of the caliper a year ago and has been putting it to various tests ever since.

There are a few things worth mentioning separately. First, this is the largest 3D-printed titanium part ever. Second, it weighs in at just 2.9 kilograms (6.4 lb.), which is full 40% less than the standard Bugatti Chiron brake supports weigh.

In order to test the eight-piston caliper, the research team placed it in a test environment simulating a Bugatti Chiron braking hard all the way from 375 km/h (233 mph) to zero. The brake disc heats up to over 1,000 degrees Celsius in the process, but the titanium part has no trouble withstanding the stress, apparently.

There is no estimated availability date so far.
