Bugatti will come to the 2019 Geneva Motor Show with a modern interpretation of the ultra-rare 57 SC Atlantic coupe that used to be produced between 1934 and 1940. Rumor has it that it was Ferdinand Piёch, Volkswagen ex-CEO, who ordered the creation of the unique vehicle reportedly worth €16M.
The car has taillights spanning the entire width of its rear, just like the Bugatti Chiron, and sports an interesting fin-like ornament in the center.
It remains a matter of debate just what kind of chassis the reimagined 57 SC Atlantic is based upon. Some claim it is the Chiron, but the modern hypercar has a mid-engine layout that doesn’t quite combine with the retro-style body of the Atlantic. Then again, Bugatti could have used a different platform sourced from a third-party manufacturer such as VW.
Only four copies of the 57 SC Atlantic were ever released, and only three have survived to these days. One of these three fetched U.S. $30M at an auction in 2010.
