Bugatti CEO has made it abundantly clear that the company is ready to start working on a new car model, destined to become the second in its current lineup. Discussions are underway to decide whether it is going to be an SUV or an SUV/coupe combo.
Interestingly, the manufacturer considers building its next vehicle on the Lamborghini Urus chassis. This is not too surprising, considering that both Lamborghini and Bugatti are part of the Volkswagen Group.
Despite the company’s obvious wish to source certain components from the Urus, it insists that the Bugatti SUV will have two doors instead of four, and will be smaller and lighter than its donor vehicle.
As far as the engines are concerned, chances are fairly good that the car will get a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 rated at 641 hp (478 kW) and 850 Nm (627 lbft) of torque. This one might end up connected to (an) electric motor(s) to achieve 1,000 horsepower (745 kW) total output. If the French carmaker approves of the latter configuration, the new SUV will be much faster than the Urus, which makes 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.6 seconds and tops out at 305 km/h (190 mph).
As soon as Volkswagen Group approves of the new model, Bugatti will slate it for production in 2023, with the view to produce 800 copies annually.
