Rumors that Bugatti was working on a more practical and wallet-friendly road-going supercar have been circulating for a few years now, but the latest statement from company CEO Stefan Winkelmann makes it abundantly clear that none will be coming.
According to him, such a car was indeed in development, but the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the accompanying economic recession made it unfeasible.
Despite the continuing crisis, Bugatti has been performing exceptionally well in terms of sales the year, breaking its all-time records. With 80 percent of Chiron hypercars planned for production in 2021 already pre-sold, its next year promises to be every bit as good.
Depicted on the photos and in the video here is the Bugatti Galibier, the concept car that had been expected to evolve into the modestly priced production supercar that will never come out now that the project has been closed.
