The Bugatti Bolide unveiled in late October had such extreme technical specifications that many people asked themselves whether they were even real in the first place. The latest set of photos showcasing the French automaker’s ultimate hypercar addresses that issue with the caption, “Bolide is real”.
On paper, the car’s eight-liter W16 rated at 1,850 PS (1,824 hp / 1,360 kW) and 1,850 Nm (1,364 lb-ft) of torque takes the vehicle from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.17 seconds. Hitting the 200 km/h (124 mph) mark is a matter of 4.36 seconds, and 300 km/h (186 mph) is unlocked after 7.37 s. But wait, there’s more: the Bolide smashes the 400 km/h (248 mph) barrier in 12.08 s and proceeds to reach airplane-like 500 km/h (310 mph) in 20.16 s.
The top speed should lie beyond 500 kilometers per hour, the company says. In theory, the racer only needs 24.64 seconds to go 0-400-0 km/h and 33.62 seconds to go to 500 km/h and back to zero. It should also lap up the Le Mans circuit in 3:7.1 and the Nürburgring in 5:23.1.
The big caveat is that none of these figures have been proven under real-world conditions, so it seems like Bugatti has plenty of work ahead of it still.
