A one-of-a-kind prototype car Bugatti EB110 SS issued in 1993 will be sold at Sotheby’s. The vehicle, whose odometer only reads 3,300 kilometers (2,050 miles) in total, is likely to cost its new owner anywhere between €850,000 and €1,100,000.
Interestingly, the prototype had initially been rear-driven and mostly used by the manufacturer for chassis and homologation-related tests. It was later outfitted with a 4WD and an engine borrowed from the EB110 GT prototype. It was with this very engine that the car had set a famous world record in 1992 by going all the way up to 342.7 km/h (213 mph).
The unique 1993 Bugatti EB110 SS put up for Sotheby’s has two fuel tanks, an original gear switch, and a carbon-fiber hood – all of the above being different from what the limited series of these cars came equipped with.
Back at the time, Bugatti EB110 SS used to be powered by 3.5-liter V12 motors with as many as four turbines. Their typical yield amounted to 611 horsepower and 647 Nm torque. Driven by an engine like this, the supercar went 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 3.3 seconds and only reached its limit at 355 km/h (220.5 mph).
The limited series of Bugatti EB110 SS cars comprised only 36 copies.
