It is also an electric scooter.
Bugatti has teamed up with Bytech to produce the weakest vehicle ever to receive the Bugatti badge: a battery scooter rated at 0.95 horsepower, or 700 watts.
Bytech is a known designer of fashion accessories for gadgets and mobile devices, such as in-car phone holders, but it has never made a scooter yet. Despite this, the French automaker famous for building some the world’s most expensive cars decided to team up with the brand anyway.
The electric ride maxes out at 30 kilometers per hour (18.6 miles per hour) in Sport mode and is only half as fast in City mode. It has enough battery juice for 35 kilometers (21.7 miles) of range, and replenishes the charge in around 4 hours. The battery is removable, so you can detach it and take with you to charge from a wall socket.
The wheels come in at 9 inches in diameter, which Bugatti claims strikes the optimum balance between handling ease and comfort. Unlike most modern scooters, it easily takes two adult people on board, as long as they don’t weigh more than 242 kilograms (533 pounds) combined.
Included in the trim spec is a digital dashboard and a full set of lights including a headlamp, brake lights and turn indicators. When driven, the scooter can be set to project a Bugatti logo behind it.
Pricing details have not been revealed yet, but you should be safe expecting it to cost an order of magnitude more than your average electric scooter. Bugatti had produced multiple toy cars, kids’ cars and luxury accessories in the past (including wristwatches, champagne and even a billiards table) that cost 10x or more than their closest analogs.
