Just moments ago, we told you about Rezvani’s ambitions to make its upcoming Tank SUV the world’s strongest sports utility vehicle. Little did they know that Bugatti had different plans…
According to a rumor spreading online like a wildfire, the French hypercar maker is getting ready to unveil its first all-electric crossover SUV, rated at a stellar 1,900 horsepower (1,417 kilowatts). Compare this to the new Tank’s projected 1,000 hp (745 kW).
According to media sources, Bugatti has contracted Croatian engine design firm Rimac to develop the powertrain for the still-unnamed SUV. It also enlisted the help of German engineering company Edag, and is planning to utilize the production facilities of Magna Steyr.
If we had to guess, we would say the car might end up with the same powertrain as the Rimac C_Two and the Pininfarina Battista. Both come powered by a quartet of electric motors jointly rated at 1,900 hp (1,417 kW) and 2,300 Nm (1,696 lb-ft) of torque. In both cases, power comes from a huge 120 kWh traction battery.
The rumors are also unusually specific about the planned production volumes and pricing. Allegedly, Bugatti hopes to sell 600 e-SUVs per year, priced from U.S. $850,000 each.
The Bugatti Chiron (featured in the gallery and the video here) is the only model currently being released by the French hypercar maker. Two hundred Chirons have left the assembly lines over the past two years.
