When car manufacturers feel like setting a new world record, they often design a mass-market car first and then try to bring it to the finish line faster than anyone ever did. Bugatti did the exact opposite with its Chiron Sport, though, first hitting 304 MPH (490 km/h) and then announcing production.
A total of 30 hypercars priced at €3.5 million each will roll off the assembly lines starting in 2021. The series will be called Chiron Super Sport 300+, a clear reference to the 300+ mph the prototype vehicle achieved.
That said, the ‘civilian’ Chiron Super Sport 300+ will ship electronically capped at 440 km/h (273.4 mph). It will retain the original 1,600-hp (1,193-kW) engine, the magnesium-alloy wheels and the purpose-built aerodynamic kit. The same is true for its elongated rear, enhanced exhaust system, new rear diffuser, reshaped front bumper, performance engine cooling, and other components.
The production car will also feature a roll bar and a single seat, but customers will be able to specify whether they would prefer another seat instead of the roll bar. The body color is also subject to choice.
Bugatti signed its first sale contract straight during the reveal event, so that’s one car less remaining.
