The spy pics show a vehicle under wraps, but there is no mistaking the signature Chiron horseshoe grille and the slits under the headlights.
Rumor has it that a new Chiron special edition is underway to its premiere at the Geneva International Motor Show in March. It will allegedly be called ‘Chiron R’ and occupy the market niche between the Chiron Sport and Chiron Super Sport 300+.
Unlike the standard-issue Chiron, which you can see in the video, the alleged R test build sports a large, tall, fixed rear wing instead of the pop-up spoiler. This should give it more downforce and therefore better handling at higher speeds.
The rumored Chiron R will likely get the same W16 8.0 engine rated between 1,500 and 1,600 horsepower (1,120 – 1,193 kilowatts). Its acceleration times probably remain to be measured, but the standard Chiron goes 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 2.4 seconds and maxes out at 420 km/h (261 mph). The Chiron Super Sport 300+ is the world’s fastest production car right now with its 490 km/h (304 mph) max speed.
