Frank Heyl, Design Director at Bugatti, has given an interview pointing out the design peculiarities of the Chiron Pur Sport and Chiron Super Sport 300+.
The Pur Sport has been created specifically for high-speed maneuvering and top-notch cornering performance. To that end, it weighs 50 kilos (110 lbs) less than the standard Chiron, has a lower gravity center, redesigned front and rear, and maxes out at 350 km/h (217 mph).
The larger air intakes of this special edition ensure proper air influx even at lower speeds. The front splitter guarantees the maximum possible downforce while also lending the Pur Sport a wider, more stylish look. A unique paint scheme enhances the impression: for the first time on record, Bugatti essentially divides the car in half with its livery, letting the lower half remain unpainted carbon fiber. The result is a racecar that seems to melt into the asphalt while moving.
The enormous 1.9-meter wide fixed rear wing at the rear axle provides most of the downforce, and the massive diffuser enhances it further. Frank Heyl says the Chiron Pur Sport was inspired by science fiction works every bit as much as the motorsports industry.
The unique lightweight wheels the car rides on help the braking system cool down faster, and the titanium-alloy exhaust system uses 3D printed parts. The hypercar emerges in 60 units priced at €3,000,000 each.
The Chiron Super Sport 300+, on the contrary, focuses on attaining the highest straight-line speed possible in a production car. Its racecar-like elongated rear with no oversized attachments serves to minimize aerodynamic drag, and the exhaust system has been designed specifically to minimize the impact the outflowing gases may have on the aerodynamic performance. The front end has also received slight tweaks to guide the air streams perfectly around the car body.
The orange stripes symbolize the road markings and reference the iconic liveries of the Veyron Super Sport World Record Edition (coupe) and Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse WRC Edition (roadster).
The Chiron Super Sport 300+ comes out in 30 units priced at €3,500,000 apiece.
