After eight years of service and over 80,000 kilometers (50,000 miles) covered, the Bugatti Chiron 4-005 test prototype will now permanently end its career.
Even though the production of the Chiron began five years ago, prototype tests continues throughout all these years. Among other things, this particular car was used to test the software written for its various subsystems including suspension, transmission, infotainment, and so on. With the software being updated throughout its entire life cycle, test cars are always needed to ensure its quality.
The 4-005 was also among the first Chirons to hit the United States shores, and the first to hit the Nardo racetrack. It also toughed though Scandinavian winters and burned under the scorching sun of South Africa.
The fate of the unique Chiron prototype remains undecided: it might end up in a museum somewhere or in a private collection. The one thing Bugatti warns about is that it is not legal to drive on general roads.
