Bugatti takes the La Voiture Noire out for a spin

Every Bugatti Chiron is unique by definition, as the company offers its clients nearly unlimited customization opportunities. Even so, the La Voiture Noire is the most special vehicle of them all – and it has now finally come out for its track tests.

The Black Car will celebrate its official premiere in its final form on May 31, 2021. The French automaker claims it has spent 65,000 engineering hours designing it, which amounts to more than seven years of work combined. The numbers sound especially impressive if you consider that the car isn’t even an all-new development, but a heavily modified Chiron.

Bugatti describes the La Voiture Noire as a ‘work of automotive art that has everything it takes to outlive centuries’. Powering it is an eight-liter, quad-turbo W16 engine rated at 1,500 PS (1,479 hp / 1,103 kW) and 1,600 Nm (1,180 lb-ft) of torque. Fuel consumption is officially estimated at 22 liters per 100 kilometers (10.7 MPG for our North American readers).
