If a recent YouTube video is any indication, Bugatti’s Bolide hypercar sounds every bit like a true racer.
The one-off car is not restrained by noise pollution laws, so its development team had fun designing a muffler-free exhaust for the monstrous W16 powering it. All four tailpipes exit in the middle of the rear diffuser.
First revealed last fall, the Bolide packs an improved version of the company’s eight-liter W16, which now churns out 1,850 PS (1,824 hp / 1,360 kW). The track projectile had a carbon-fiber monocoque and needs 2.17 seconds to reach 100 km/h (62 mph). It also has a claimed top speed of 500 km/h (310 mph).
Weighing in at 1,240 kg (2,734 lbs), the Bolide is comparable to a B-class vehicle in this respect. Taking its power into consideration, however, it boasts a power-to-weight ratio of 0.67 kg per metric horsepower. In theory, this could make it the world’s most powerful hypercar on most internationally famous raceways.
The body kit draws upon Formula One tech, and the rear wing alone produces over 1,800 kg (3,970 lbs) of downforce at 320 km/h (199 mph).
