Bugatti recalls Chiron Pur Sport over tire failure

The U.S. National Highway Transport Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced a recall campaign concerning nine Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport hypercars registered nationwide. The defect looks like it could apply to all Chirons produced, so caution is advised while the manufacturer looks into the issue.

Apparently, it has been discovered that the OEM tires of these cars may develop cracks after just 2,500 miles (slightly over 4,000 kilometers) of use. Until new tires are developed for the ultra-deluxe hypercar series, all owners are advised to visit dealerships and have their tires changed every 1,875 miles (3,017 kilometers). Driving Chirons with potentially problematic tires should be avoided in the meantime.

We are told that Bugatti learned about the defect in last September after testing one of the Pur Sport prototypes. It has suspended production until Michelin finds the cause of the degradation and designs a more robust tire set for the Pur Sport.
