Like the Veyron before it, the Bugatti Chiron has spawned numerous special editions. Some were pure eye candy, while others came with serious tech improvements. The Divo, Centodieci and Super Sport 300+ may have overshadowed the Pur Sport with their headline-making stats, but let us hold no illusions regarding this extremely capable track weapon.
The coupe in the video almost sounds slow with its top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph). The Super Sport versioned mentioned above was confirmed to be capable of 490 km/h (304 mph). Despite this, a recent video filmed on Circuit Paul Ricard shows that numbers are largely irrelevant when they are this big, anyway.
In the video, the Chiron proceeds to get to 100, 200 and then 300 kilometers per hour in what looks like no time at all, but this is not even the most exciting bit. What truly impresses us is how smooth the acceleration is and how the engine feels like it could go well beyond 300 km/h the moment it was allowed to.
Notice how the hypercar bolts down the straight line after every curve, almost like a rocket. Acceleration speed plays a much greater role in motorsports than top speed, and the Pur Sport makes use of the fact with its 6,900 RPM redline (up 200 RPM). Custom-ordered Michelin Sport Cup 2 R tires also contribute to the insane dynamic performance, as does the suspension, which is 65% harder at the front and 33% stiffer at the rear. Just look how maneuverable it is!
