An 84-year-old Bugatti Type 57C Atalante will go cross the auction block on August 19, 2022 expected to fetch up to 3.4 million USD thanks to its pristine condition and being one out of only five such cars in existence.
Bugatti produced 17 chasses like this, outfitting 16 with mechanical superchargers and marking them with the letter C (Compresseur). Clients then ordered custom bodies from different coachbuilders. This example was one of five to receive an aluminum body from a company named Gangloff.
The coupe was exhibited in Paris 84 years ago. It has later been kept in a private collection for nearly six decades, and its current owner purchased it in 2014. The auction marks the first time this particular 57C Atalante becomes available to the wide public.
The auction holder notes that the car is fully authentic. This includes the powertrain that retains OEM parts and the interior – although the car did undergo a partial restoration not long ago. A 3.3-liter supercharged eight-cylinder under the hood produces 210 PS (207 hp / 154 kW), letting the coupe reach a top speed of 190 km/h (118 mph).
