Swapping spark plugs in a Bugatti Veyron costs on par with a new car

A Reddit user has shed light on the expenses associated with owning a hypercar like the Bugatti Veyron. Allegedly, a service station he is familiar with charges over 20,000 USD to replace the spark plugs and ignition coils. It also takes a skilled professional around 50 hours of work to carry out.

There is no mention of whether the service station is a properly authorized Bugatti outlet. The author of the post headed there because his W16 started skipping ignition in its cylinders number 13 and 16. New OEM coils were estimated at $730 / 1pcs and the plugs at $170 / 1pcs. For reference, Volkswagen spark plugs with what the poster claims to be the same characteristics come in at $18 / 1pcs.

Waiting for the parts to ship took around a month, but it was not all. Simply accessing the engine necessitated tearing down the entire rear end bodywork. In turn, accessing the spark plugs and coils required disassembling some of the engine and unplugging some of the wiring. The technician who conducted the repairs was lying down on a special kind of pedestal that enabled him to get a clear top-down overview of the engine bay. Check out the pics to understand what it means.
