Feast your eyes on a Bugatti Veyron that took 20 tons of aluminum to build

The Bugatti Chiron is all but gone from production, yet the company still manages to keep us excited about its past cars. This time around, the French automaker revealed a custom Veyron model produced for a high-end vehicle collector out of 20 metric tons (that’s nearly 45,000 lbs) of aluminum.

Bugatti isn’t disclosing any pricing details, but the standard Veyron starts from $2,500,000, and rumors claim the buyer had to fork over at least twice as much for the aluminum makeover.

The uncredited collector had asked for a Grand Sport Vitesse (see video) with an all-aluminum body fabricated strictly out of whole aluminum billets without any seams, joints or welds. The automaker had done some calculations and concluded that it would require twenty tons of expensive metal, plus an incredibly long, complicated and involved assembly process.

However, the client plainly refused to take “no” for an answer. Furthermore, they were the French marque’s only customer to have bought multiple Veyron Super Sports and one car out of each Legends lineup. Declining a request from such a high-profile buyer was out of the question, and Bugatti gave in.

The final result can be seen here. It is a gorgeous-looking Veyron coupe with a polished-aluminum body, a vivid red interior and embroidered letters “KAQ” all around (possibly the owner’s initials). It was commissioned several years ago and currently has 750 km (466 miles) on the odometer.
