A unique vehicle known as the Geoff Crossley Special, created by professional racing driver Geoffrey Crossley more than half a century ago, will cross the auction block in the near future expected to fetch between £30,000 and £50,000.
The car runs an upgraded version of the 3.5-liter Built V8 engine first introduced in 1961. At the time, it was the world’s most lightweight mass-produced eight-cylinder engine at just 144 kilograms (317 pounds). It owed this property to the extensive use of aluminum throughout. Crossley had expanded the displacement by another 100cc and made further improvements.
The whole built took more than 5,000 hours to complete. Crossley designed and produced an all-new chassis and body for the car from the ground up. He equipped the engine with all-new internals, a new sump and four Weber carburetors. Having begun his work in 1968, he didn’t finish it until 1974.
The listing points out that the car had never left Crossley’s family and is currently being sold by his direct descendants.
