Eye-catching Buick Electra cosplaying an SUV bid to $5,250

It can be rather hard (or expensive) to stand out from the rest of the traffic these days, but this 1987 Buick Electra accomplishes the goal easily despite its faded looks and low price. The secret? Tuning, as usual.

The owner of the car had it outfitted with wheels and tires that once belonged to a Jeep Wrangler. He also raised the suspension by 3 inches (76 mm) using modified shock absorbers and coil spacers. He put a rack on the roof along with a spare wheel and ended up with an uncanny-looking, high-riding wagon sporting wooden trim on the sides.

The owner is the first to admit that the car isn’t the prettiest around. It is also quite worn and needs attention. The AC, cruise control and windshield wipers need repairing. The drive is still on the rear wheels only, so taking the Electra off-road shouldn’t be a serious consideration. Most importantly, the body and the suspension are prone to strong vibrations that can go unchecked and make you lose control of the car on the highway. Even the author of the tuning says he is scared to take his Electra to the big roads.

Nonetheless, the car was posted for sale on eBay not long ago and attracted a top bid of $5,250. It is unclear whether it was actually sold for that amount.
