Buick’s first Ultium-based EV set to debut before the end of the year

Buick has teased the first mass-market EV designed on the Ultium platform by General Motors and confirmed that the premiere would follow later this year. Carscoops adds that the Ministry of Industry and IT of China revealed select specifications and images of the car last month.

The model will be known as the Buick Electra 5 in China and will come based on the Electra-X Concept revealed last year. If you watch the video and compare it to the images of the actual production car, you will notice that the radiator grille, the bumper and the overall body style have been simplified a lot from the original concept.

According to the patent filings, the SUV is 4,892 mm (192.1 inches) long and weighs 2,570 kilograms (5,666 pounds). Its powertrain outputs 245 PS (242 hp / 180 kW) at most, but the motor count and drive configuration remain to be revealed.

The manufacturer promises us improved battery tech, upgraded SuperCruise, and a new Virtual Cockpit. In addition to the Electra 5, Buick plans to launch another full-on electric car next year, but that one remains a dark horse at the moment.
