Here’s all you wanted to know about the next-gen Buick Encore, Encore GX SUVs

Two new crossover SUVs – the Buick Encore and its long-wheelbase version Encore GX – will arrive on their domestic market (China) in mid-July, followed by a release in the United States in 2020. In the meantime, let us have a closer look at their specs and details.

Both models take advantage of a new modular car architecture called BXX, which was developed by General Motors. The next-gen Buick Encore is virtually identical in terms of dimensions to its predecessor, which in turn is a badge-engineered version of the Opel Mokka. Specifically, it is 4,295 millimeters (14.09 ft.) long, 1,798 mm (5.9 ft.) wide and 1,616 mm (5.3 ft.) tall with 2,570 mm (8.43 ft.) separating the axles.

By default, the SUV ships with a single-area climate control, mechanically adjustable seats, a traditional analog dashboard, and a reversing camera. Paid options include a multimedia system with an 8-inch display and a panoramic glass roof. Engine options include a 1.0-liter turbo-three unit rated at 116 hp (87 kW) and a 1.3-liter engine capable of 158 hp (118 kW). Both link to a CVT transmission.

The Buick Encore GX is a more expensive long-wheelbase version of the Encore. It comes with its own body and cabin design and measures 4,463 mm (14.64 ft.) long, 1,813 mm (5.95 ft.) wide and 1,653 mm (5.42 ft.) tall with a wheelbase of 2,640 mm (8.66 ft.).

The cabin gets the same 8-inch multimedia display by default, but it comes built into the dashboard, rather than hovering above it. The available options list is also different and includes leather upholstery, power adjustments for the front seats, and power-assisted tailgate. Unlike the regular Buick Encore, the GX version is missing the center air vent at the rear.

The GX ships exclusively with a 1.3-liter turbocharged engine producing 165 hp (123 kW). You may get it in two variants: on-demand AWD plus nine-speed automatic transmission, and FWD plus CVT.

As stated above, the first cars will hit showrooms throughout China in mid-July, with the USA release following next year.
