When Buick introduced its Encore GX crossover SUV in the United States in May 2019, it said nothing about the engine range it would ship with. As it turns out, there will be two 3-cylinder engines to choose from.
The Encore GX will present a choice between a 1.2-liter mill good for 139 hp (103 kW) and 220 Nm (162 lb-ft) of torque, and its 1.3-liter counterpart with 157 hp (117 kW) and 236 Nm (174 lb-ft). The former version will be limited to FWD and CVT, while the latter will additionally support AWD and automatic transmission.
China will get the SUV sooner than the USA. The 1.3-liter engine will be the only one on offer in that country, but at 165 hp (123 kW) and 240 Nm (177 lb-ft), it will be slightly stronger than its U.S. counterpart.
The utility vehicle is 4,463 millimeters (14.64 feet) long, 1,813 mm (5.95 ft.) wide and 1,653 mm (5.42 ft.) tall with 2,640 mm (8.66 ft.) separating the axles.
Buick will assemble the U.S. variant of the Encore GX in South Korea. The regular Buick Encore won’t disappear from the market when the GX arrives. Based on the Opel Mokka platform, the non-GX Encore will be getting a new 1.4-liter engine with 140 hp (104 kW) and 200 Nm (148 lb-ft) of torque later this year.
