Next-gen Buick Excelle to debut in China

The North American car manufacturer Buick said it would bring the next-generation Excelle compact sedan on the Chinese market. The updated vehicle sports a spacious and ergonomically designed interior, new architecture and an extended list of on-board equipment.

The Chinese Buick Excelle is 4,688 mm (183”) long, 1,765 mm (69”) wide and 1,469 mm (57.4”) tall. Its wheelbase is 11 mm (0.43”) wider than that of the predecessor model.

The company wasn’t eager to discuss technical specs of the new car this early on, but said that it is ‘packed to the brim with automated systems for safety, steering assistance and fuel consumption monitoring’.

The base model comes equipped with climate control, an infotainment unit with a sensor display, and 16-inch wheels. Customers will get a choice between a 1.3-liter engine with 107 hp (80 kW) and a 1.0-liter unit capable of 116 hp (86.5 kW). Either can be purchased with a CVT or a five-speed manual gearbox.

Around 2,700,000 copies of the Buick Excelle sedan have been sold in China after its initial debut in 2003. The production was stopped in 2016, even though the car remained among the most demanded ones in the lineup. Now that the update has been announced, it won’t be long until the assembly lines are busy again.
