Buick refreshes LaCrosse, hopes to revive sales

Buick has released the second facelift of its LaCrosse sedan series in the North America. The current generation debuted three years ago and was first refreshed in 2017, getting a mild hybrid system and the top trim level Avenir.

In its latest update, the Buick LaCrosse series has got new body color options and an interior air ionizer. It has also got a new variant called Sport Touring (ST), which ships with a non-chromed radiator mesh, a trunk lid-mounted badge and 19-inch design wheels. It also sports a 3.6-liter naturally-aspirated V6 engine working in conjunction with a nine-speed automatic transmission and producing up to 310 hp / 231 kW.

The hybrid drivetrain, including a 2.5-liter engine with 194 hp / 145 kW, a dynamotor and a 0.45 kWh battery set, is now available for the Basic, Preferred, Essence and Premium trim levels.

The restyled Buick LaCrosse series is available starting at U.S. $29,500 ($39,300 for the ST version).

It doesn’t take a market analyst to see why the company is releasing one update after another. The sales are rather poor and show a negative trend, down from over 27,580 cars in 2016 to only 20,160 in 2017.
