Despite the fact that Opel abandoned General Motors to join PSA Group long ago, the German carmaker continues to provide its tech and engineering expertise for the Buick brand. These photos show the facelifted Buick Regal sedan/saloon set for China launch.
The 2020 Regal can be seen wearing a new front bumper and headlights, as well as a slightly reshaped radiator grille.
The currently available Buick Regal (see video) ships with two turbocharged engines to choose from: a 1.5 TFSI with 170 hp (127 kW) and 252 Nm (186 lb-ft) of torque, and a 2.0 TFSI with 261 hp (195 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft). Both link to the same model of nine-speed automatic transmission. According to unofficial reports of the Chinese automotive media, the 1.5-liter engine will be replaced with a smaller 1.3-liter turbo rated at 158 hp (118 kW). The 2.0-liter mill will stay in the lineup, but will be downgraded to 230 hp (172 kW).
The U.S. versions of the Buick Regal (TourX and Sportback) will likely also go through certain stylistic changes soon, but the engine range should stay untouched. Right now, the standard trim version ships with a 2.0-liter turbo engine good for 253 hp (189 kW) and 353 Nm (260 lb-ft) of torque. The high-end GS trim benefits from a 3.6-liter V6 mill rated at 314 hp (234 kW) and 382 Nm (282 lb-ft). In contrast, the Chinese GS makes do with a turbo-four mull rated at only 261 hp (195 kW).
