The Buick Wildcat Concept revives the famous name to give us an idea about the planned appearance of future Buick cars set to reach the market in a few years.
The design study looks like a large and aggressive fastback with elaborate bumpers, a large glass dome, modest overhangs and a characteristic profile with elongated hood and dynamic roofline. The wheels are also quite large and turbine-shaped. Slim LED headlights can project animated images, while large doors and rising roof panels should make getting in and out of the car easy for people of all heights.
The cabin seats four passengers and is divided in two at the front end with a floating console display and a touchscreen providing access to some additional functions. Two more displays are merged into a single dashboard screen and sport a similar design to the novel steering wheel.
Parameters and production prospects remain unannounced. While Buick does not say so outright, the car has every trait of a design study not meant for mass production. Its main goal is, arguably, to attract attention to the company’s electrification plans. Buick plans to launch its first production EV – the Electra – in a few years from now, and go full-electric by late 2020s.
As for the new badge mentioned above, it still depicts three vertical shields, but the new ones look slicker and are all lined up next to each other with no frame around them. Like before, the emblem uses silver, red, white and blue colors.
