Bulgaria gets a 5,200-HP hypercar ready to rumble

Bulgaria-based automaker Alieno has revealed the Unum, its ambitious hypercar project envisioned with two vastly different, yet equally eco-friendly powertrains. The vehicle with the projected top speed over 580 km/h (360 mph) is already available to pre-order; final prices will lie within the range of €1.8 - €4.5 million.

The all-electric Unum THF comes in four versions equipped with 3-6 motors per wheel, giving it 2,610, 3,481, 4,351 or 5,221 metric horsepower depending on the motor count (1,920, 2,560, 3,200 and 3,840 kilowatts, respectively). The torque will vary from 4,440 Nm (3,275 lb-ft) in the entry spec to 8,880 Nm (6,550 lb-ft) in the top spec. The company has not revealed any launch times so far.

A proprietary power cell pack consists of supercapacitors and graphene-based lithium-polymer cells. It maxes out at 180 kilowatt-hours of capacity, which is actually very little for a power-hungry hypercar like this, but charging at a dedicated rapid-charge station will replenish most of the capacity in just four minutes.

The other option looks more outlandish, since it uses 24 jet engine nozzles functioning on highly pressurized air. A special air tank made of compound materials holds the pressures of up to 700 Bar and can be automatically replenished using a built-in electric compressor.

Alieno plans to produce the Unum against custom orders and strictly by hand, which explains why piecing one car together takes between 1.5 and 2.5 years.
