Volkswagen brings self-driving ID. Buzz van to IAA Mobility 2021

Volkswagen first showed us the ID. Buzz Concept around four years ago, promising to begin production by 2020. It never happened, but the work is in full swing – here’s one of the latest iterations of the autonomous electric van.

Dubbed the Buzz AD, the show car sports new bumpers, lighting, and countless sensors and radars all around. The body boasts a number of tech-related decals, such as ‘Argo AI’, ‘MOIA’ and ‘self-driving test vehicle’.

The company claims the van is capable of detecting objects in a range of up to 400 meters (1,312 feet). It is still running public road tests in cities, but is destined to become a production vehicle for delivery services in four years’ time.

The regular, non-autonomous Volkswagen ID. Buzz is expected to debut in Europe in 2022.
