Volkswagen has officially confirmed the intention to produce an adventure-friendly ‘California’ version of its upcoming all-electric van, ID. Buzz. Apparently, the VW Group Supervisory Board greenlit the project after hearing the details.
Specifically, the company became aware of the surging demand for VW-badged vans observed over the past several months. Not long ago, the marque also announced the Caddy California, the second entry in the camping-oriented California lineup after the larger California 6.1.
The standard VW ID. Buzz is due to enter production next year, and the automaker says its camper version will have to wait until the second half of the decade. No further details have been revealed so far. As a rule, California vehicles tend to have the same exterior and cabin design as their standard counterpart while offering travel-friendly options and equipment. They can also benefit from longer wheelbases and larger battery sizes. The largest Volkswagen currently has is 111 kWh, but more is certainly possible.
