Bold and charismatic: BYD E-Seed GT debuts in China

Several years ago, Chinese carmaker BYD struck a cooperation deal with Wolfgang Egger, ex-Head Designer of Audi Group and Alfa Romeo. The car marque then proceeded to refresh its entire vehicle range in accordance with the new design direction. Despite this, what the company still clearly lacked was a highly special, unique kind of car that would serve as a flagship and paragon of the BYD marque. At the recently concluded 2019 Auto Shanghai show, the company did show just such a vehicle.

The E-Seed GT Concept is a four-seat supercar that measures 4,590 mm (15.05 ft.) long. It boasts huge gull-wing doors, an original set of wheels 22 inches in diameter, and a seemingly low body profile. The latter is little more a mere optical illusion, however, as the vehicle is 1,490 mm (4.9 ft.) tall and therefore in line with normal mid-size cars.

The BYD E-Seed GT comes powered by a hybrid drivetrain based on a 2.0-liter turbocharged gas engine and a few electric engines. The resulting output remains undisclosed, but it has to be high indeed, considering that the car sprints from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a breezy 2.9 seconds.

The manufacturer does not say whether the model will eventually make it into series or not.
