We have already reported about Songsan, a bike-club-turned-carmaker, intending to imitate the classical Chevrolet C1 Corvette in its own spinoff called SS Dolphin. Production has now officially started, mere months from the September premiere.
Produced by BYD Auto, the vehicle features an original chassis design and a modestly specced modern powertrain. It sports a stainless steel tube-frame construction and a composite body.
The exterior gives off strong 1958 Corvette vibes thanks to the faithfully recreated panoramic windshield, twin round headlights, and abundant chrome details. Having said that, the overall proportions are way off with the sides being too wide and the front overhang too long. The company writes off these critiques as unavoidable due to modern powertrain layout and safety requirements.
The SS Dolphin will emerge in the form of a coupe and a soft-top convertible. It will utilize a BYD-developed hybrid system based on a 1.5-liter turbo.
Prices in China begin from 590,000 Yuan ($91,700 USD).
