BYD unveils the Seal, its newest battery sedan

Chinese automaker BYD has shared images and principal specifications of its upcoming sedan named Seal. The model continues the marine-themed lineup that originated with the Ocean-X and targets younger, sports-minded buyers.

The car is 4.8 x 1.87 x. 1.46 meters large with 2.92 meters between the axles. It comes based on BYD’s proprietary electric car architecture named the e-platform 3.0. It is expected to ship with four powertrain variants to choose from, including two FWD/single-motor specs and two AWD/dual-motor setups. The former are expected to make 204 and 313 PS (201 and 309 hp; 150 and 230 kW, respectively). The latter will allegedly get 320 and 408 PS (316 and 402 hp; 235 and 300 kW).

It remains uncertain when the BYD Seal may celebrate its final premiere and go on sale. Earlier whispers suggested the Auto China show in Beijing in the end of this month, but the new epidemic outbreak in China may disrupt these plans.

Price-wise, Chinese media believe the Seal will fall within the 220,000–280,000 Yuan range ($34,500–44,000 USD at the current conversion rates).
