Chinese automaker BYD and fuel consortium Shell have teamed up to put the world’s biggest electric vehicle charging station in operation. Dubbed Shell Recharge, the complex can serve 258 EVs simultaneously.
Shell Recharge is located next to the Shenzhen Airport and has vending machines, cafes, stores and a recreational area on its premises. According to Shell, during the test launch the station was able to power up more than 3,300 vehicles per day. The capacity will continue to grow as the station keeps running.
Some of the electricity is produced by the solar panels on site. Shell says they can yield up to 0.3 gigawatt-hours per year.
