The first images of an upcoming BYD-badged pickup truck have been posted by Car News China. According to the publication, the vehicle was conceptualized by Audi ex-designer Wolfgang Egger, who had designed most of the German company’s recent models before leaving.
The sales will likely begin before the end of the current year. Interestingly, although the Chinese corporation has not one, but two dedicated off-road brands in its portfolio already – YangWang and Fang Cheng Bao – the truck shown here was registered in the patent database as a BYD model. It will be electrified as released as a part of the company’s Ocean EV lineup, first as a plug-in hybrid and later as an all-electric vehicle.
Judging by the images, the truck has large BYD lettering on the radiator grille, a four-door cab, impressively large bumpers and wheel arch extensions, roof rails and a sunroof.
Prototypes of this model have been spotted in and around China for about a year now. The photographers said it was around 5.3 meters long and 1.8 meters tall. For the drivetrain, we would expect it to ship with a 1.5-liter turbo engine and two electric motors joining forces for 489 PS (482 hp / 360 kW). Knowing BYD, the interior will likely offer a heads-up display as part of the standard spec.
