BYD Shark announced in Mexico

BYD Group has shared some images and parameters of the Shark pickup for Latin and South America. It has an exports-only status at this time, and whether it may be released in China later is unknown.

The truck is a hybrid with its battery pack built into the frame. It is 5,457 mm long, 1,971 mm wide and 1,925 mm tall with 3,260 mm between the axles. The bed fits 1,450 liters of cargo, but the nominal load must not exceed 835 kg (1,980 lbs).

The hybrid powertrain is based on a 1.5-liter engine and produces over 430 horsepower (321 kW). The truck sprints 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 5.7 seconds and consumes 7.5 liters of petrol per 100 km on average (that’s roughly 31.3 MPG). All-electric range doesn’t exceed 100 km (62 miles), but gets extended to 840 km (522 miles) with a full tank.

BYD doesn’t disclose the capacity of the battery, but points out that you can use it to power external appliances during camping trips and the like. Drivers can switch between three presets designed for good and poor roads.

The base trim level includes an infotainment system composed of two displays 10.25 and 12.8 inches large. It supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay out of the box. A heads-up display, a powerful wireless charger and surround-view cameras are included as well.

The sales start date and the pricing remain to be announced.
