Car News China has posted some spy shots of a BYD Seal 06GT spotted in the wild. The mid-size crossover SUV, which had been previously known as “Ocean-M” and “Seal X”, is expected to arrive in China in Q3 2024 and cost roughly 150,000–200,000 Yuan. It should go on sale on other markets where BYD is present in early 2025.
When the automaker revealed the model at the Beijing Auto Show in April (see video), it was an all-electric hot hatchback with a rear wing and other extreme aero parts. A month later, the Chinese Ministry of Industry reported receiving a patent application for a very similar vehicle with much tamer styling. Back then, the media had speculated that it would go on sale called “Seal MINI”, “Seal X”, “Seal 05EV”, or “Seal 06GT”.
All reports now indicate that the SUV will be known as the Seal 06GT. It will be sized 4,630 x 1,880 x 1,490 mm (180.9 x 73.5 x 58.2 inches) with 2,820 mm (110.2 inches) of wheelbase.
The company registered it with three powertrains and two battery sizes. The entry-level RWD version will produce 218 PS (215 hp / 160 kW), while its long-range alternative will output 224 PS (221 hp / 165 kW). The AWD version will combine a 150-PS (148-hp / 110-kW) motor at the front axle with a 272-PS (268-hp / 200-kW) one at the rear end.
There will be two main battery sizes – 59.52 and 72.96 kilowatt-hours. Depending on the motor configuration and other parameters, BYD expects ranges to vary from 505 to 605 km (from 313 to 376 miles) per the local CLTC standard.
