Just as the rumors suggested, smartphone maker Apple had spent a while working on a secret electric car project that never came to fruition.
Speaking in an interview, one of the company’s former executives revealed that Apple teamed up with BYD on designing traction battery cells. When the Chinese automaker presented an early prototype of its Blade battery tech, Apple engineers were reportedly so excited they decided to focus all their efforts on maximizing their power capacity.
However, the rest of the development didn’t go as well as planned, and the IT corporation ultimately ended its partnership with BYD, shelving its car-making plans indefinitely.
