After patenting the name ‘Frigate’ for its new crossover SUV lineup, BYD announced the first model called the 07. The prototype debuted in spring, and the finalized production car is following up now.
At 4,820 mm long with 2,820 mm of wheelbase, the Frigate 07 is comparable to the Kia Sorento in terms of size. The radiator grille is quite massive and the shoulder line is fairly tall. The wheels measure 19 inches across.
A 15.6-inch multimedia display inside sits next to a digital dashboard and a heads-up display. Options include panoramic sunroof, power seats, a Dynaudio sound system and adaptive cruise control.
Powering the SUV is a hybrid system based on a 1.5-liter petrol engine rated at 139 PS (137 hp / 102 kW) and 231 Nm (170 lb-ft) of torque. At lower speeds, the main engine is either disabled completely or functioning as a power generator for the electric motor, which drives the front wheels with 197 PS (194 hp / 144 kW). Opting for a top spec adds another motor to the rear axle with 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW) under its command. The hybrid offers up to 200 km (124 miles) of all-electric range, the manufacturer claims.
The first cars should reach dealerships next month.
