BYD to unleash a Leopard next month

BYD Group has revealed the name of the new hybrid car it will be producing under Fan Cheng Bao sub-brand: Bao 5, or otherwise Leopard 5. The launch will be in August, but some details have already been revealed.

A while ago, the manufacturer posted some shots of Bao 5 prototypes running winter tests. The company has now revealed that the car is five meters (16.4 feet) long with a masculine exterior, boxy wheel arches, large mirrors and upright c-pillars. It will have three large displays on the dashboard and airplane-style controls on the broad transmission tunnel. Judging by the pictograms on the buttons, the suspension will be adjustable.

Rumor has it the Bao 5 will be powered by electric motors jointly producing 544 PS (536 hp / 400 kW) and sprint from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in four seconds or so. A petrol engine will be present on board solely as a power generator, resulting in a combined driving range of 1,200 km (745 miles). Note that these reports have not yet been verified.
