Uzbekistan film director Sarvar Karimov has posted a promotional video he shot for Tashkent Index, a company with a car marketplace in the city of Tashkent. The vid stars Samy Naceri, the famous main cast actor of the Taxi movies, behind the steering wheel of a Songsan SS Dolphin.
The Chinese car looks a bit like the first-gen Chevrolet Corvette, but has little to do with it. The plot follows the actor as he takes the Dolphin out for a test drive on public roads, breaking all legal speed limits and visibly enjoying the idleness of the police. All characters in the video, including Naceri himself, talk in Uzbek and gorge on local fast food.
It looks like the filming took place early this month, when the actor visited the Pearl of the Silk Road International Movie Festival in Tashkent.
As for the SS Dolphin, it debuted at the Beijing Auto Show three years ago powered by a hybrid system rated at 315 PS (311 hp / 232 kW) and 535 Nm (395 lb-ft) of torque. It can sprint 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.9 seconds.
Two weeks after the premiere, Chevrolet has come out with an official statement regarding the C1 Corvette lookalike. The company said it launched a probe into it, but decided not to push any criminal charges against BYD Songsan because the semblance was rough and superficial.
