BYD Seal comes to Europe specced and priced to undercut Tesla

Chinese automaker BYD has brought its electric sedan named Seal to the IAA Mobility show in Munich. The car is slated to go on sale on the Old Continent before the end of the year, and it is shaping up to be a big pain for Tesla with its Model 3.

The BYD Seal features a traction battery distributed across the frame of the car, which lets it store 82.5 kilowatt-hours of power in a relatively compact package. Later on, the company plans on launching a smaller-sized battery option.

Power for the sedan comes from a single electric motor mounted on the rear axle. With 313 PS (309 hp / 230 kW) reaching the wheels, it sprints 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 5.9 seconds and covers up to 570 km (354 miles) of WLTP-rated range per charge. The dual-motor version has 530 PS (323 hp / 390 kW), sprints in 3.8 seconds and covers 520 km (323 miles) on a charge.

As you can see, the car is pretty much on par with the Tesla Model 3 in terms of specifications and has slightly more range, to boot. Prices are pending, but the domestic version is cheaper than the Model 3.
