BYD Song L celebrates production debut

Chinese automaker BYD showed us the Song L Concept at the beginning of the year followed by a late pre-production version of it at the Chengdu Motor Show. Now, the car has been finalized and is available for pre-ordering.

The all-electric BYD Song L is similar in size to the Tesla Model Y. It has a bare minimum of hardware buttons inside, a large 15.6-inch multimedia tablet in the middle and a 10.25-inch digital dashboard.

Underpinning the car is a 800-volt electric platform known as the e3.0, which comes preloaded with a host of safety features from the factory. Buyers get three modifications to choose among. The base spec has a single electric motor at the rear axle, 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW) and 550 km (342 miles) of range.

The middle spec also has only one motor, but it produces a superior 313 PS (309 hp / 230 kW) and covers 662 km (411 miles) on a charge. Finally, the dual-motor Song L hits the asphalt with 517 PS (510 hp / 380 kW) and sprints from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.3 seconds. That’s all we know so far.

Prices start from 220,000 Yuan (~30,000 USD).
