The China-made BYD Yangwang U9 supercar premiered in early 2023 and went on preorder in February this year, but the actual shipments have yet to begin, CarNewsChina reports.
Things are looking up for the buyers, though, because the company has just announced the start of production. The first cars are set to arrive at the dealerships in late August. Customers with active preorders may track their status using a dedicated BYD app. Late deliveries will be compensated at the rate of 2,000 company credits per day. BYD explains that 2,000 credits are equivalent to 200 Yuan and can be spent on post-sale services, such as regular maintenance.
The battery-powered Yangwang U9 uses four electric motors to drive the wheels with a combined 1,305 PS (1,287 hp / 960 kW) and 1,680 Nm (1,240 lb-ft) of torque. The manufacturer claims it needs 2.36 seconds to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) from standstill and can hit 310 km/h (192 mph). The range varies from 450 to 465 km (280–289 miles) depending on the configuration.
Among other things, the car is equipped with an innovative suspension system known as the DiSus-X, which actively controls lateral, longitudinal and vertical motions of the chassis in real time. A lifetime warranty extends to the powertrain and all main electronic systems.
Prices in China start from 1.68 million Yuan.
