BYD Yuan UP previewed in official photos

Chinese automaker BYD Auto has posted some photos of its next EV, the Yuan UP. According to Car News China, it is expected to arrive in March priced from 100,000 Yuan ($14,000), but the premiere is still a little while away.

The first certification shots of the Yuan UP appeared in the patent database of China in late 2023. Compared to them, the car in the official images looks the same, just finished in light green. It still has a bulky front bumper, slim headlights, five-spoke wheels, a large panoramic roof with a spoiler, and blacked-out c-pillars for a “floating roof” effect. Other than that, it looks designed in the same vein as the BYD Song L.

From the technical perspective, the Yuan UP runs on e-Platform 3.0. The BYD Dolphin and Yuan Plus (a.k.a. Atto 3) use the same chassis and tech. It is sized 4,310 x 1,830 x 1,675 mm large with 2,620 mm between the axles. Like the Dolphin (see video), it comes with two motor options to choose between – 95 PS (94 hp / 70 kW) and 177 PS (175 hp / 130 kW). The top speed doesn’t exceed 160 km/h (99 mph) in either case.

The battery pack consists of LiFePo4 cells and is produced by a BYD subsidiary named FinDreams. The smaller option stores 32 kWh of power and can cover 301 km (187 miles) on a charge. The larger one stores 45.1 kWh and is good for 401 km (249 miles).
